In a nutshell, Technology and IT related case studies describe how a company or organization solved a challenge using a technical product or service, and what the results of solving that challenge were. In the end, it’s really a “before and after” story.

So why do Technology / IT Case Studies work so well? Why do we need them?

Well first, case studies tell a story. And everybody loves a story. The guard usually comes down and the mind opens up. And this is important because many or most of the people who are involved in making buying decisions these days are already spread too thin. They need to make decisions faster, and they are inundated with “biased” marketing. In other words, they’re numb to being “sold” to.

What they want is the unbiased truth, preferably from somebody like them (a business peer) and they want it fast.

Hence, the Case Study.

Testimonials on Steroids

Case studies are like testimonials on steroids. They provide credibility to a company’s claim that their product or service is a solution to their problem because somebody else who has actually used it (usually a business peer) says that it is so.

This is very powerful. In many cases, all it takes to get a potential customer to make a buying decision is for them to read 1 or 2 well written case studies.
