About David Guthrie
Rural beginnings a long way from a Lifetime of Technical Achievements
David Guthrie grew up the son of a lifetime military father and a Japanese mother. That in and of itself would have made for an interesting life. And it certainly did. Being born in Key West, Florida and then moving to a big city in Japan at the age of 6 only to return to live on a Tennessee farm at the age of 9 fluent in Japanese, gave new meaning to the term ‘culture shock’.
The first of many character building life experiences, farm life was hard. The variety of daily activities and chores included milking cows (yes, by hand), raising beef cows, goats, chickens, horses, pigs, building barns, mending fences, and tending the garden. David even learned to smoke hams, make cracklin, and churn butter.
It was not until he was an adult that he realized that all of these things that he had disliked doing when he was growing up, had now become fond memories of an American way of life that is now more or less, forgotten. And with it also came a new found appreciation for his father, who had taught him that through hard work, dedication, and perseverance we can succeed at anything.
This same work ethic, ingrained on a farm in Tennessee so many years ago, is the same one that drove David throughout his very successful career in Information Technology and is now the same one that drives him everyday in his copywriting.
A Who’s Who list of Companies on which to build an Information Technology Career on
David considers himself lucky to have worked as a permanent employee for some of the finest companies in the world. He is also very proud and humbled to have worked for every single one. From IBM, to Dell, to Nissan and Bridgestone. All are huge monoliths in their respective industries.
Very few copywriters can claim to have such an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the inner workings of the I.T. areas of major companies like these as David can. Knowledge and understanding that weaves itself naturally throughout his copy also making it easier for his clients to communicate their technology oriented products and service needs to him.
David has an immense insight into the backbone of the information technology that drives these major corporations and uses that insight to write copy that speaks clearly and persuasively to potential clients.
David earned an Associates Degree in Business Data Processing at Nashville State Technical Institute, graduating Summa Cum Laude in 1983. Later he earned a B.A. in Management and Human Relations at Trevecca College, again graduating Summa Cum Laude.
He is a graduate of American Writers and Artists (AWAI) copywriting programs and is continually learning and upgrading his skills in this area.
When he is not writing copy or doing something ‘techie’, David plays music in a rock band, reads voraciously, is an amateur wine connoisseur, lifts weights, runs, scuba dives, and kayaks.
